I spend much of my day talking. Talking to clients, colleagues, business owners. There are those who have a spring in their step and a glint in their eye. Who love what they do so much it oozes from them. There are those who go about the motions of running their business. The day to day routine until it’s time to go home and try and switch off. And there are those who struggle. They have no drive at all. No purpose. They feel defeated and almost trapped.
Michael Bergers famously says that if you don’t love what you do, you have simply bought yourself a job.
There are 100s of books and TEDx talks about this subject and you can spend an eternity learning the “secrets”. Here are my top 3 tips that I know have worked for me and many others I come into contact with.
- Know your purpose. What is your “why”? What gets you up every day and do what you do. For me, it is my drive to make a difference in people’s lives. To be significant and relevant for them. It is said that people don’t necessarily remember your name or your business, they remember how you made them FEEL. I use this to fuel everything I do in Pryority.
- Break down your goals into achievable bites. I have done and plan to do some pretty big things. If I was to think about these things as a whole, it would be very easy to become overwhelmed by the enormity of them. Instead, I take one step after another. Concentrating on each step before me knowing that these will all bring my to the end results I am after.
- Be grateful. We live in such a beautiful and wonderful place. We are fortunate that we don’t suffer the same struggles many in this world face. Be grateful for these things. Reflect on what you DO have instead of what you don’t. If you are having a day that you are struggling through, take a step back and remove the chaos of the moment and breath in all that you have.
At the end of the day, we are all on this planet for such a short period of time. Make it count. Make a difference. Find joy in your life and what you do. If you don’t have it, consciously create it and remember that the little voice inside your head telling you that you can’t, is never right!
